Substitute Early Childhood Education Paraeducator (ECE)

Position Summary
Assists one or more Early Childhood teachers in the education, care, supervision, and
instruction of pre-school aged children, in classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds at a center dedicated to pre-kindergarten children, and in the community. Maintains and prepares classroom and related environments, materials, and control of forms. Assists in developing play-oriented curriculum.

Work Year: Continuous
Employee Type: Full Time and Part Time
Salary: $18.77 per hour (Step 1 of the Board Approved CSEA Salary Schedule for the classification)

Education and Experience
The position requires a High School diploma and 6 college units of Early Child
Development, Early Childhood Education or other related field with emphasis on infant to preschool age children. Requires successful completion of at least 48 college credit units or passage of a competency assessment. One year of experience in a preschool age enrichment program or child care setting is preferred.

Requirements for ECE Paraeducator positions under the Federal Head Start Program ; High School Diploma or equivalent and a California Associate Teacher Permit (Referred by Federal head Start as “Child Development Associate Credential”) or Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Licenses and Certificates
May require a valid driver’s license. Certificate or permit required as defined in the Child
Development Permit Matrix established through the California Department of Education.
CPR/First Aid certificate with pediatric endorsement.

Required Documents
All of the following documents are required for this position:

• Resume (Provide clear evidence of required experience)
• Copy of Transcript (6 semester units in ECE or Child Development)
• Proof of HS Graduation (High School Diploma or High School Transcripts or equivalent (ex: GED))
• NCLB Compliance (48 college units (semester) or pass the Paraeducator Proficiency Exam)
• CPR/First Aid Certification (current/valid and with pediatric endorsement)
